This 6-inch f/8 was King College's first telescope.  Its 6-inch mirror was ground by a former professor at the college.  The figure of the mirror was found to be to be good so the mirror was silvered and the scope was built.
The telescope was stored in a garage and carried outside when for use.  Here are several students preparing it for use:  they are:

Here is a close-up of the mounting-- it was constructed of pipe given top the college by a local plumbing supplier.
The optics of the 6-inch were eventually remounted into the truss-tube arrangement seen here.  The telescope was given a new mount and installed in the dome seen below.  Dr. Ed Burke is pictured.
